Becoming the best at what you do is going to separate you from other free-agents out there competing with you. That means you have to put the time in to become a master of your craft. And with the resources available these days, there is plenty of training and help to get you there.
The second key is expanding your network of relationships. Not just shaking hands and passing out business cards, but quality and valuable relationships. In the past, you could bury your head, do your job and let your boss take care of the rest. But in the free agent economy, you become responsible for developing the relationships that will help you expand your reach and build your business.
