If you meet someone in a professional setting people always ask you, “What do you do?” and it’s boring. “Commit to an accountability system” with Jeff Spadafora

Jeff Spadafora says most people fail to follow through because they try to do it (whatever it is) alone. We come up with plans and dreams, then find out implementing them is harder than we think, especially over the long haul. People have more fun talking about life purpose and joy than they actually want to do it. It’s hard. It takes intentionality, and many times you have to live outside of your comfort zone. The key is to get another person, a coach, in your life to help you stay accountable to push through the tough times.

“Permission to Dream” with Jeff Spadafora

Jeff Spadafora talks about giving ourselves permission to dream. Often, people get stuck once they start to dream because they may have a mindset that says, “If a revenue stream doesn’t materialize immediately the dream get’s shut down.” That’s a huge mistake and based in fear. Jeff says you can explore these dreams without quitting your day job. Instead, create the margin to explore your ideas and play them out, a little bit at a time. When you discover your calling, there is usually a way to attach a revenue stream to it. Don’t think you have to go from “quit your job” today to some fantasyland that has no income tomorrow. But, at the same time, don’t shut down dreaming if you can’t see how it will pay the bills by next week.

“No margin. No mission” with Jeff Spadafora

Jeff Spadafora says we’re just too busy with our work and life responsibilities, and many people do not really stop to think about the trajectory of their life. Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not a life worth living.” Just creating space to think clearly and strategically about your life like you would about your business is really important.

Some people just need to make some tweaks in their life to get back into the flow of “joy.” But there are others who find out they need to make some more significant or radical adjustments. The reason why margin is so critical is not just so that you can think, dream, and strategize, but so you can then turn those ideas into action. And if we don’t intentionally make the time to proactively explore things, talk to different people, and get into different environments, we’ll never move on from where we are.

“Aligning Your Actions & Values” with Jeff Spadafora

Jeff Spadafora talks about how much of the dissatisfaction we feel with our lives comes from a dissonance between our values and our actual lives. It’s different for each person. For some, it might be the mid-life crisis: The red convertible. Quit my job. Trade-up for a trophy wife. Some opt for the big, drastic change, but it’s not for everybody. Often there’s just a subtle discontent with how we are living. That’s the time to get in touch with our values, get clarity on whether we’re living according to those values, then making some strategic, intentional adjustments.

“Finding Bliss In Your Work” with Cort Dial

Cort Dial says bliss is not necessarily happiness, but it’s the experience of being alive, being fully human. It’s when you’re totally being present in the moment and experiencing what it means to be alive. Bliss can exist in tragedy or joy, or any other state of being. But the key to being blissful is you choosing to be present in the moment. When a person becomes intentional and decides to live a life in their bliss, the universe and circumstances seem to line up to support them.

“The Five Conditions for Developing Performance” with Cort Dial

Cort Dial talks about the five conditions for developing performance. Most people develop their work self-esteem according to the actions and words of their supervisor. No one - a technician in a plant or an elite professional athlete - can ever out perform their self-esteem. As their leader, if you don’t help them cultivate high self-esteem you are limiting their performance––and, by extension, the performance of the entire organization.

“Selling Your Heretical Idea” with Cort Dial

Cort Dial talks about the four fields from which business performance can be created. The two common areas that business people often leverage are systems and behaviors. Companies are constantly talking about their systems, programs, and different behaviors. The other two fields of performance are “self,” which is everything that goes inside a human being, and “social,” which is everything that goes on between human beings in an organization.

You can produce extraordinary results without systems, without work in behaviors, but they have to be inspired, and that’s where your heretical idea comes into play. You have to put a  big idea in front of them, because once you articulate a big gain and they say, “I want to be part of that,” performance is no longer an issue.

“Are You A Heretic?” with Cort Dial

Cort Dial says a heretic in business is someone who can see a problem that no one else sees and can see the next opportunity over the horizon. And while that vision might be apparent to that person, the rest of the organization can be oblivious. That puts the heretic in a challenging situation: they are offering opportunities and solutions to problems that others can't see.

“Creating deeper love with others” with Daniel Packard

Daniel Packard talks about some practical tips to create deeper love with others. Sometimes we get the idea that we need to be different to be loved. When you think you’re not enough to be loved it doesn’t occur to you that you could just be yourself, and that somebody might actually WANT to be with you. Instead, we can feel a need to be perfect, or shiny, or smart, or get it right like we are auditioning. The reality is that you, to the right person, are priceless.

“How do we build self-love?” with Daniel Packard

Daniel Packard says life and business can be limited by fear. If you are more comfortable with yourself and have more self-love, you’re better at sales because you’re not emotionally attached to the outcome, so it puts people at ease. You’re a better leader because you can be more magnanimous, more generous, more patient, and more compassionate. You can also be more authentic. When you love yourself more, you’re more vulnerable and transparent, and people resonate to those qualities. It also allows you to think outside the box more, and be a more creative thinker because there’s no fear of rejection or failure. Ultimately, you can bring your most valuable gift to your business place which is your unique self.

“Becoming Less Afraid” with Daniel Packard

Daniel Packard talks about how we can be less afraid in our relationships. If you trace it, all relationship fear at its core is a fear of rejection or being hurt. But if you break it down, fear of rejection doesn’t exist. Rejection technically is someone giving you a “no,” and you relate a meaning to it. It’s not the “no” that’s scary, it’s the meaning we assign to it. And the meaning that’s so scary is the deep fear we all have that we’re not enough to be loved. When you find yourself afraid to be rejected, remind yourself that rejection doesn't exist, and it's just you making it mean something about you. And unlike other people’s actions, that’s an emotion you can have control over.

Daniel Packard talks about the biggest love mistake people make: just expecting it to “work out.” That’s the blind spot of love, because everywhere else in our lives if we want something we go out and we create it. But with love we often have a poor attitude, and it’s because we think it’s just going to “show up.” When you start to see that love - just like success or money - is a result of intentional action and a change of attitude, it starts to manifest itself.

You can quickly switch between two things, but instead of getting two things done at once, you'll only be doing two things unwell. “Lose Your Mind” with Kute Blackson

Kute Blackson says our mind is constantly going. We have 65,000-75,000 thoughts a day. It’s a constant person inside of us saying, “Hey, don’t do that,” “Do that,” “Eat that ice cream,” “What’s wrong with you?” “You’re not good enough.” “Oh my God, you’re so _____!”

Our mind is programmed and conditioned from childhood, and many of the thoughts we’re thinking are not even ours, they’ve been passed down to us from generation to generation, and we’re just playing them out daily. But just because the thought is in your mind it doesn’t mean it’s real or a fact. We must realize that it’s not the thoughts that are important but your relationship with your thoughts. The mind is an amazing salesperson, and we must start to question and not just buy what our mind is selling us. Kute teaches us how to decipher and stop buying fake thoughts believing they’re real.

When you look at the world today, with all the craziness going on, we must acknowledge that the Government is not going to save you, your parents are not going to save you, your friends are not going to carry you forever. Bottom line: if it’s going to be…it’s going to be us. When you make that mental shift and recognize that no one owes you anything, it frees you up to stop looking outside of yourself to be saved or rescued, and it forces you to take radical responsibility for yourself and your own life in a way you’ve never done before.

“The Miracle Morning For Salespeople” with Ryan Snow

There are countless books written for salespeople about various sales techniques. Most salespeople use these techniques daily, yet the majority still fail to achieve the results they want. So, what is the difference between "average" performers and the top 1% in your company or industry? The more you study the world’s top salespeople, in any industry, the more you realize that their success is a result of who they are more than merely what they do. Thus, logic would have it that if you want to take your SALES to the next level, you must first figure out how to take your SELF to the next level (because it only happens in that order).

Today, Dave recaps episodes 561-564 where Ryan Snow shares tips from his book, “The Miracle Morning for Salespeople: The Fastest Way to Take Your SELF and Your SALES to the Next Level.”

“Managing Your Time and Money” with Ryan Snow

Ryan Snow talks about the importance managing time and money, and how they impact our ability to become successful in sales and business.

There are many things we come into contact with in business that we can't control. And when we encounter one of those situations, we have two options: either blame all the outside forces or take responsibility for ourselves and our business.

Ryan says, when we start in business, we tend to have a lot more time than money. And it’s easy to waste time when we have a lot of it. So we have to become efficient at managing our time. As our business grows, we have less and less time, but more and more money. So there’s a shift that takes place, and we have to master managing our time and money, leveraging both to make our business grow.

How do salespeople use these strategies? Ryan says we attract the people we become. So if we want to have Level Ten clients, we do that by becoming Level Ten people. Better sales means becoming a better version of yourself, and that comes through practicing a powerful morning routine.

“We’re ALL Salespeople” with Ryan Snow

Ryan Snow talks about why everyone in business is in sales - or should be. How does your level of personal development affect your level of success in business and sales?

Ryan studied what makes certain people highly successful in business and sales, and came up with two common themes. First, you are always looking at the value that you are adding for your clients, being amazing at what you do. Second, you can be the best at anything, but if you don’t have any clients to add value to, then you have no opportunity to add that value to the world.

On today’s show, Ryan will show us how to set our focus to grow not only our business but ourselves, so we can affect more people as we have the opportunity to offer value.

“There Are ALWAYS More Options” with Elizabeth Crook

Elizabeth Crook talks about a critical step in decision making, to identify all your possible options. In our culture, we tend to think in terms of either/or instead of having an abundance of possibilities. Often, the way we come to our decisions is to boil it down to, “I can either do this OR do that.” Instead, we should ask, “What are the other options I could entertain?” As we allow ourselves to consider more options, we begin to see our whole range of choices instead of getting locked into binary thinking.

“Making Decisions When Emotions Run High” with Elizabeth Crook

Elizabeth Crook reminds us that hard things happen in life. People lose jobs, or a big client, divorce, illness…something we did not imagine. And as those storms come into our life, it feels like our whole landscape has been destroyed. Many times we try and run from those emotions rather than face our emotional storm so we can move forward. Elizabeth says it’s better to allow ourselves to face and feel the emotions, then move past them so we can base our decisions on the hard truth of the facts as they are.

Elizabeth Crook says as we walk through our life or business, all kinds of tempting invitations will come our way. But as you work through your strategic planning, you will have to decide if those “opportunities” the direction you should be going based on what you want, or are they a detour that will take you away from your ultimate goal? Sometimes others will offer us opportunities, and we have to decide if we’re playing their game instead of playing our own.

“Mindfulness” with Wilma Jones

Wilma Jones talks about mindfulness, or the ability to be present in the current moment. It’s capacity to focus on exactly where you are right now and what you are doing in the moment without judgment. The biggest thing about mindfulness is the incorporation of breathing, because breathing while you're mindful is what causes the physiological changes that happen to your body. There is also a difference between mindfulness vs. mindlessness. When you’re mindless, you let past experiences keep you stuck in behavior patterns. Mindfulness is all about having control over your thoughts without judging and making assumptions about what’s going to happen based on your memories of the past.

That creates increased accuracy and causes you to be more engaging because it gives your brain the ability to clean out all of those things you’ve been working on and stressing with all day. It’s scientifically proven that, if you can incorporate a few minutes of exercise, it will significantly improve your happiness and ability to do your job.

“NEVER Binge Again” with Glenn Livingston

Most contemporary thought on overeating and bingeing focuses on healing and self-love.  But people who've overcome food and weight issues often report it was more like capturing and caging a rabid dog than learning to love their inner child.

Open the cage even an inch—or show that dog an ounce of fear—and it'll quickly burst out to shred your healthy eating plans, undoing all your progress in a heartbeat.

On today’s show, Dave recaps episodes 546-549 where Glenn Livingston talks about his book, “Never Binge Again: Reprogram Yourself to Think Like a Permanently Thin Person. Stop Overeating and Binge Eating and Stick to the Food Plan of Your Choice!”

Our history has been to follow XYZ Diet Guru, then letting your inner saboteur say, “Well, there’s this problem with XYZ Diet Guru’s methods, so I’ll have to try some other diet guru.” But setting up food rules is a  process of taking ownership and responsibility for your own eating behavior.

“Why You Don’t Eat Right” with Glenn Livingston

Glenn Livingston talks about the various types of foods and eating behaviors that cause people to lose control. We all have a lizard brain, the oldest part of the brain, the brain stem. It's responsible for primitive survival instincts such as aggression and fear ("flight or fight.”) It looks at things in our environment and says, “Do I eat it, do I kill it, or do I mate with it?” But the lizard brain becomes our enemy when it latches onto a toxic food or behavior as if it’s a matter of survival. It doesn’t matter what your higher self wants. All that matters is that the lizard brain says, “I need that to survive. I need to eat that, and that’s it.”

It allows you to do the things you want and value; you just have to do it on purpose. Having a budget also makes your spending more enjoyable and takes the guilt and shame away, because the spending is what you planned and you are not second guessing yourself. Angus Nelson talks about Two Keys for Success in the new free-agent economy: Being a self-learner and becoming an expert networker.

Becoming the best at what you do is going to separate you from other free-agents out there competing with you. That means you have to put the time in to become a master of your craft. And with the resources available these days, there is plenty of training and help to get you there.

The second key is expanding your network of relationships. Not just shaking hands and passing out business cards, but quality and valuable relationships. In the past, you could bury your head, do your job and let your boss take care of the rest. But in the free agent economy, you become responsible for developing the relationships that will help you expand your reach and build your business.

Big brands can no longer make unreasonable demands on you. Company leadership will have to take on a different approach in how they treat their contract labor force with empathy, compassion, and understanding.

On the other side of the equation, as a contractor, it’s critical to develop the soft skills of negotiating and networking, making them as important as your hard skills. You are now developing rapport and relationships in developing your network and connections, so you have to learn the savvy of interaction.

Also, the hourly fees tend to be higher, but with the advantages, there will be a demand for excellence and the responsibility will be on you to deliver.

You are your own brand and company as a free agent, and that means you have to manage your brand and reputation. And as you become the best known and respected provider in your field, people will pay top dollar for someone they know, like, and trust.

How do you find your authentic inner voice in the crowd of other voices that surround you? The limiting thoughts in your head that come from other places always make you feel weighed down.
