“The A.D.D Entrepreneur” with Matt Curry

Entrepreneurs are different. We're wired differently. We're the 1%. To others, we're on the lunatic fringe, and to many, we're risk takers. However, when you get a group of entrepreneurs in a room together, we're pretty much all the same. One of the key traits that make us who we are is that most of us "suffer" from Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D.).

On this episode, Dave recaps episode 501-504 where Matt talks about his book “The A.D.D Entrepreneur: How To Harness Your Superpowers To Create A Kickass Company” and how we can transform A.D.D. from a limitation to a superpower.

“Stop Confusing and Start Convincing” with Matt Curry

Matt Curry talks about boosting your sales by using the 5 C’s: Commonality, Complement, Connect, Collaborate, and Close. People don’t want their time wasted, they want the information they need to make a decision. And they don’t need more than that, because too much information slows down the buying decision. Often we tend to give the customer too much information, and that confuses them. Instead, stop confusing and get right to the close.

“Find a Way To Say Yes” with Matt Curry

Matt Curry firmly believes in the power of “Yes” and having a positive mindset when it comes to sales and your company. Customers have a problem they need to be solved, and it’s your job to find the solution. Find a way to say “Yes” as much as possible, because if you say “No” enough times, the customer is going to go somewhere else. People will pay you for “Yes!”

“Practice the Art of Creative Destruction” with Matt Curry

Matt Curry says the art of creative destruction is practicing continuous improvement in your organization. It’s always trying to tweak. If you have something that’s working well, don’t just sit on it and relax, try to figure out a way to even make it better. Obviously, if there’s an area where things are not going well that’s not practicing creative destruction, that’s just fixing a problem. But when things are going well, the remarkable entrepreneurs are always trying to refine the system or the workflow to become even more efficient both for you as a company and the customer.

“Begin at the Beginning” with Matt Curry

Matt Curry talks about living your entrepreneurial life and becoming aware of our individual skills and talents. He says that each of us has a “superpower” that we can share with the world. But you don’t find that superpower necessarily right away. You have to do the hard work to experiment and grow to find your superpower, and that's what it means to begin at the beginning. You are going to wade through a lot of challenges, you are not always going to be doing stuff that you like, that’s part of life.

“Rebuilding Trust” with Michelle Reina

Michelle Reina says the vast majority of compromised and damaged trust are small and subtle, and they can have an accumulative impact. There is a myriad of small, subtle ways that trust gets compromised: a single act, a single misstep. And a pattern of these breaches of trust that add up over time, we begin damaging the health of our relationships.

We rebuild trust when we start to reframe those experiences. We consider the bigger picture or extenuating circumstances, and we give the benefit of the doubt to the person who hurt us or let us down. And we always have to take responsibility for how we respond, how we move forward, and how we forgive ourselves and others.

“Building the Trust of Capability” with Michelle Reina

Michelle Reina says trust of capability is when you acknowledge others’ skills and abilities, express appreciation for work well done, involve others in making decisions, and encourage learning. At the highest level, trust of capability teaches others that they can trust you to know what you’re doing, to ask for input when you don’t, and to identify and develop the value that others could be adding to you and the organization.

As you practice the behaviors that lead to a high trust of capability, your confidence in your innate talents grows, as well as your awareness of and comfort with your shortcomings. You become positioned as a resident expert, trusted subject matter coach, and a genuinely competent professional.

“Building the Trust of Communication” with Michelle Reina

Michelle Reina talks about how trust of communication is what defines “how” we are going to talk with one another. Relationships are hard. Trust is not a linear process, and there are going to be times when it will become compromised, for no other reason than we are human beings. When dealing with others, all of us will trip up and make mistakes. When there is trust in our communication we can talk about those errors, and we can leverage them for the learning and the insights they have to offer us.

“Building the Trust of Character” with Michelle Reina

Michelle Reina talks about trust of character as the baseline starting point of trust in business relationships. We build confidence in our character when we keep our word and deliver what we promise. We also build trust in our character when we’re clear about what we expect from others, and we help manage those expectations so that others can be successful in how they’re working and dealing with us.
