“The Contribution Equation” with Alex Charfen

Alex Charfen talks about what he calls “The Contribution Equation.” There is a foundational equation at the heart of the achievements of every major figure throughout history. This Contribution Equation is both the shortcut to success and, as Alex contends, the meaning of life. For EPT’s, what life is all about is knowing you moved things forward, you were in momentum, and you made a contribution every day.

“Entrepreneurial Loops and Spirals” with Alex Charfen

Alex Charfen warns us about what he calls “entrepreneurial loops and spirals” and the challenge of unintentional consumption. Whether it’s books, seminars, coaches, or online programs, entrepreneurs have the tendency to consume information and products unintentionally in an effort to find momentum. To combat these negative loops and spirals of wasted activity, we must increase their awareness and intention around the content we consume.

“Entrepreneurial Suppression: Why You Feel Like You Don’t Belong” with Alex Charfen

Alex Charfen says the world is uncomfortable because EPT’s make them nervous. Most people want things to stay the same. Societal systems (like public education) are set up to standardize behavior and suppress what’s unique, different or new. Recognizing this, entrepreneurs can reverse the cycle of Entrepreneurial Suppression to maximize their unique attributes and live in their strengths.

“Momentum: The Life Blood of the Entrepreneur” with Alex Charfen

Alex Charfen says The Entrepreneurial Personality Type (EPT) is a personality type that explains your behavior and the way you interact with the world … there’s nothing wrong with you, and you are not alone. This type is a sub-population of human beings that is driven to move forward, momentum based, and wants to create new outcomes in the world. When we look at success throughout history, and when we look at people who’ve been driven to move the world forward, we don’t see formulas or plans, what we see is a personality type…the EPT.

“Make Decisions Without Self-Sabotage” with Kevin Hogan

Most decisions we make are non-conscious. For example, you get an email, and you just click on it. We make hundreds and hundreds of decisions every day without any awareness whatsoever, and that’s a good thing because our brain knows what has to happen around us. And 97-99% of the time it’s doing a pretty good job.

But then there are the bigger, more impactful decisions that are very conscious. Buy a new house, change jobs, or start a new business are decisions that fall in that category. Those kinds of decisions are very hard to navigate when they bump up against our fear of change and begin to inspire self-sabotage. In this episode, Kevin Hogan guides us through self-sabotage and how to make decisions in a conscious, practical way that helps us get past our fear of change.

“How to Do It All” with Linda Formichelli

You want to do, see, and experience everything you can to create a rich, memorable life. Travel. Volunteer work. Athletic events. Entertaining. Reading, learning and trying new things. And you want to look and feel great while you do it. In fact, your favorite saying just might be “Life is not a dress rehearsal.”  BUT: Read any blog, magazine, or book and the common refrain is, “You have SO much to do! You need to simplify your life and say ‘No’ to things you don’t want to do.

Author Linda Formichelli says that’s BS. On today’s show, Dave recaps episodes 466-469 where Linda shares valuable lessons and wise tips from her book, “How to Do It All: The Revolutionary Plan to Create a Full, Meaningful Life — While Only Occasionally Wanting to Poke Your Eyes Out With a Sharpie.”

“Are you really working that hard?” with Linda Formichelli

According to author Linda Formichelli, most of us feel like we’re always working. But when we get to the end of the day we may realize that we’ve been spinning our wheels, doing unimportant things, putting out fires. Is that really work? Businesspeople and entrepreneurs tend to SAY they're working hard, but they count thinking, planning, and worrying as "work." How much of your day looks like you are actually taking physical action towards your goals?

“Overcoming Overwhelm” with Linda Formichelli

Linda Formichelli says if you are going to try to do everything you want to do, there are times when you will feel overwhelmed. Anytime you do something that’s worthwhile, or anything that is going to be memorable to you, it’s going to involve some stress. And that’s okay if you can find ways to mitigate it. Instead, we should learn to change our relationship with stress and redefine it, so it’s not such a dirty word.

“Ditch Your Excuses” with Linda Formichelli

Linda Formichelli says that your excuses are trying to be helpful to you. Somehow your brain is considering it more important to avoid possible failure or being embarrassed than to take action on what you want to do. We need to remember that everybody feels this fear, everybody has this resistance. If you are envying someone who’s doing everything you’ve always wanted to do, even though they look like they have no fear…they do. They have just learned to act in spite of the fear.

“You don't FIND time, you MAKE time” with Linda Formichelli

Linda Formichelli says we need to recognize that we have more time than we think. If you were to track your time, you would find a lot of leftover hours, and that you are not doing as much work, childcare, and house care as you think. We need to change our mindset and understand that the time is there, somewhere hiding out, and we need to figure out how to find it. Then we can arrange it into chunks of useful time where we can do something important.

“Stop building castles on sand” with Steve Rodgers

Steve Rodgers says, ultimately, that we have to know what our “Why” is. “Why are you doing this?” Knowing your “Why” creates the foundation for what you are building. There’s typically a higher meaning and purpose as to why people want to have more money and that’s because they want to do something with it. There’s a “Why.”

But when we don’t build our lives or business on the firm foundation of a clear, passionate purpose, then we’re building castles on sand. And when you don’t know the basis of why you started in the first place, it can make you feel very empty and cause your castle to collapse. You must begin your journey with the firm foundation of a robust and passionate reason why.

“Creating Your Roadmap” with Steve Rodgers

Steve Rodgers says getting your personal dreams mapped out on paper is important, as is talking with your partner/spouse about them. Equally important is to keep accountable to your plan by tracking your progress on a weekly and monthly basis and course correcting along the way. Anything worth playing is worth planning by having a game plan with some actionable steps instead of just winging it and hoping for the best. There is a price you pay for everything, and you have to determine are you willing to pay the cost or not. If you’re not, then don’t do it. If you are, then figure out how to get there and imagine the joys and benefits on the other side of making it happen.

“Manifesting the Dream” with Steve Rodgers

Steve Rodgers says we have to realize that fear is part of the equation. No matter what we do in life, if it has any substance; is going to push, excite, and thrill us; or will help modify or change our lives, it typically has some fear attached to it. Just realize that fear is part of the process. Once you recognize the fear, the quicker you can break through it and find the power that is on the other side of fear. You should even be excited when fear shows up because it means you are getting closer to what you are supposed to be doing.
