“NEVER Binge Again” with Glenn Livingston

Most contemporary thought on overeating and bingeing focuses on healing and self-love.  But people who've overcome food and weight issues often report it was more like capturing and caging a rabid dog than learning to love their inner child.

Open the cage even an inch—or show that dog an ounce of fear—and it'll quickly burst out to shred your healthy eating plans, undoing all your progress in a heartbeat.

On today’s show, Dave recaps episodes 546-549 where Glenn Livingston talks about his book, “Never Binge Again: Reprogram Yourself to Think Like a Permanently Thin Person. Stop Overeating and Binge Eating and Stick to the Food Plan of Your Choice!”

“Building Powerful Food Rules” with Glenn Livingston

Glenn Livingston talks about the practicalities of implementing food rules in our lives. The process of rule construction is a process of reclaiming responsibility for your food choices. Our history has been to follow XYZ Diet Guru, then letting your inner saboteur say, “Well, there’s this problem with XYZ Diet Guru’s methods, so I’ll have to try some other diet guru.” But setting up food rules is a  process of taking ownership and responsibility for your own eating behavior.

“Creating a Ridiculously Simple Food Plan” with Glenn Livingston

Glenn Livingston says a food plan is simply a collection of all the individual food rules that cohere together to protect you from your inner saboteur and make it clear when your inner saboteur is talking. The food plan is also nutritionally complete and gives you a sense of mastery and control over your eating and health related decisions.

“Silencing Your Inner Saboteur” with Glenn Livingston

Glenn Livingston says it's not that complicated, there’s you, and there's your inner saboteur. The moment you hear any voice in your head that justifies your unhealthy eating or excuses behavior that you don’t want in your life, you know that’s coming from your inner saboteur. The key is to draw solid lines in the sand and recognize the inner saboteur when it speaks. There all types of creative rules you can set up for yourself to maximize freedom and control and silence your inner saboteur.

“Why You Don’t Eat Right” with Glenn Livingston

Glenn Livingston talks about the various types of foods and eating behaviors that cause people to lose control. We all have a lizard brain, the oldest part of the brain, the brain stem. It's responsible for primitive survival instincts such as aggression and fear ("flight or fight.”) It looks at things in our environment and says, “Do I eat it, do I kill it, or do I mate with it?” But the lizard brain becomes our enemy when it latches onto a toxic food or behavior as if it’s a matter of survival. It doesn’t matter what your higher self wants. All that matters is that the lizard brain says, “I need that to survive. I need to eat that, and that’s it.”

“How a Plan Changes Everything” with Rachel Cruze

Rachel Cruze says a budget doesn’t have to feel restrictive and take away all our fun. Instead, a  budget is a permission to spend. It allows you to do the things you want and value; you just have to do it on purpose. Having a budget also makes your spending more enjoyable and takes the guilt and shame away, because the spending is what you planned and you are not second guessing yourself. Take control of your money or your money will take control of you. And the number one way to take control of your money is to have a budget.

“Recognize Your Money Habits” with Rachel Cruze

Rachel Cruze believes that, if you can create good money habits in your life, it just sets you up well for the future. And the idea of “habits” is doing something every day, little decisions that lead towards something healthy and good. Then you wake up one day and realize that habit has now become a part of who you are. Things become automatic to you, and it doesn’t have to be a stretch and fight every single time you look at your checking account.

“The Financial Impact of Social Media” with Rachel Cruze

Rachel Cruze wants us to remember that social media isn’t all reality – it’s someone else’s highlight reel. It often leads to comparisons and discontentment, which can dead-end in debt. Stop spending too much money trying to keep up a lifestyle you think everyone else is living, and you’re missing out on. You don’t know what is going on in their lives.

“The Greatest Enemy of Your Joy” with Rachel Cruze

Rachel Cruze says comparing ourselves to others not only gets us in trouble with our finances, but it also impedes the happiness and joy we have in our present life. Theodore Roosevelt said, “Comparison is the thief of joy,” and it's amazing how comparing your life to others can steal your joy.  It can snatch away the happiness and joy you experience in the moment because you are concentrating on someone else’s life, not yours.

“Two Keys for Success in the New Economy” with Angus Nelson

Angus Nelson talks about Two Keys for Success in the new free-agent economy: Being a self-learner and becoming an expert networker.

Becoming the best at what you do is going to separate you from other free-agents out there competing with you. That means you have to put the time in to become a master of your craft. And with the resources available these days, there is plenty of training and help to get you there.

The second key is expanding your network of relationships. Not just shaking hands and passing out business cards, but quality and valuable relationships. In the past, you could bury your head, do your job and let your boss take care of the rest. But in the free agent economy, you become responsible for developing the relationships that will help you expand your reach and build your business.

“Adopting the New Free Agent Mindset” with Angus Nelson

Angus Nelson talks about the critical nature of self-awareness and coaching for free agent workers. The scope of self-awareness is going a key component, particularly in the transaction of contracts. Big brands can no longer make unreasonable demands on you. Company leadership will have to take on a different approach in how they treat their contract labor force with empathy, compassion, and understanding.

On the other side of the equation, as a contractor, it’s critical to develop the soft skills of negotiating and networking, making them as important as your hard skills. You are now developing rapport and relationships in developing your network and connections, so you have to learn the savvy of interaction.

“Keys to Being a Successful Free Agent” with Angus Nelson

Angus Nelson talks about the keys to being a successful free agent. He says the three most important strategies are managing your brand, network, and reputation. A free agent has the liberty to work as much or a little as they want, anywhere they want. Also, the hourly fees tend to be higher, but with the advantages, there will be a demand for excellence and the responsibility will be on you to deliver.

You are your own brand and company as a free agent, and that means you have to manage your brand and reputation. And as you become the best known and respected provider in your field, people will pay top dollar for someone they know, like, and trust.

“Your Place in the Free Agent Economy” with Angus Nelson

Angus Nelson talks about the development of what experts call the “free agent economy.” He says the nature of work is dramatically changing into what he calls the “Gig Economy” regarding tasks. In everything from delivering groceries to delivering people, more and more companies are relying on contract labor. It’s a massive shift where companies are no longer incentivized to have full-time employees.

How do you make the transition to survive and thrive in the free agent economy? How do you change your mindset to prepare for the changing economy and nature of work? You’ll get answers to these questions and more.
